Dental Fillings In Glendale, AZ

Dental fillings are a necessity when cavities are present. Fillings can treat tooth decay, prevent further damage, tooth loss, and pain and infection. Filling seals a cavity (small hole) in the tooth.

There are many types of fillings available:

Composite fillings: Composite fillings are tooth-colored fillings meant for small to medium sized cavities. These are a great option if you are looking for a more natural filling.

Glass Ionomer fillings: Also tooth-colored, these filling release fluoride over time to help prevent further tooth decay. Glass Ionomer fillings are made of powdered glass that bonds with the teeth.

Gold fillings: The most durable of fillings and they last the longest, up to 20 years!

Get fillings can be stress inducing and may require the procedure to be completed under anesthesia if you suffer from severe dental anxiety.

Desert Valley Dentistry offers different types of anesthesia for your comfort during your visit.

If you do not require any type of anesthesia during the course of your appointment, your dentist will apply a numbing gel to the gums which takes a few minutes to take full effect. Once your dentist determines you are numb in the area they will gently inject a local anesthetic into the gum.

Your dentist will use a specialized drill to remove the decay inside of the cavity, and then they will fill the hole of the tooth with the most appropriate type of filling. Once the filling is complete your teeth will be polished, and your dentist may check your bite to make sure it feels normal.

Once your appointment is over you may continue to feel numb for a few hours, which is totally normal. Avoid eating or drinking anything so you don’t accidentally bite your lip or cheek.

You may be slightly sore after the appointment, which is also totally normal. Over-the-counter medication like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can help with the pain.

Tooth sensitivity post-filling can occur. This is due to minor nerve irritation or inflammation due to drilling. Sensitivity typically gets better over time, but if it gets worse please contact us.
